Ferry port

Den Helder is the only port from which a regular ferry service is operated by the Teso company between the mainland and the island of Texel. A special ferry port was built for this purpose.

The ferry service is operated by the Schulpengat (built 1990) and the Dokter Wagemaker (built 2005), named after the founder of the ferry service.

Under normal circumstances, a ferry departs from Texel every hour from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. A ferry leaves Den Helder every hour from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The crossing takes about 20 minutes. On Sundays and bank holidays, the ferry service begins one or two hours later, depending on the season.

In the future, Den Helder also hopes to act as a ferry port for services to Scandinavia and the Baltic.
